Trauma
When we experience a disturbing event or pattern of events that overwhelms our ability to take in what has happened, this is known as a traumatic event. It may occur in situations such as a car accident, being attacked, a sexual assault or a pattern of abuse in early life or adult relationships.
When we are unable to integrate and discharge the energy pent up during traumatic experience this may lead to many difficulties in how we function emotionally, psychologically and physically and may also cause lapses in how we recall and recognise our life history. Trauma can sometimes be felt in that edge of our awareness where we know that something does not feel right and we may have felt this for a long time but not know why.
At Mosaic, our psychotherapists will work to help you to pick up the pieces of traumatic experience and express any associated energies in a safe way that may assist you to move towards greater wholeness.
